The legacy of a family
with more than 120 years of history.

About Us

At Bodega Nanni, we believe that the inherited knowledge of more than 110 years of family tradition blended with the latest winemaking techniques, the state-of-art- technology and the respect for the environment are the three basic foundations to successfully achieve the quality of our wines.

The terroir is not only made of the land and the climate, but also of the people who work the land, their culture, their knowledge and their love for what they do. This is what differentiates one wine from another and makes it unique giving it its distinctive identity. With a long history of four generations producing wines in the Cafayate Valley, we have got to understand our land and its needs; our grapes, their right point of ripeness and the accurate way of growing them in order to produce high quality wines. Finally, we have inherited the best method to elaborate our wines so as to obtain a product with our personal and unique style.

Family Tradition

In 1885, Pietro Nanni from Rosciolo, a little town in the center of Italy, settles in Cafayate. In 1897, he starts a small family winery and in 1905, he buys Chimpa, a 11,000-hectare-estate, in the privileged Cafayate Valley.

After Pietro’s death in 1935, two of his sons, Benjamín and Pedro Nanni, continue with their father’s legacy and in 1940, they lease the winery for 10 years where The Grapevine and Wine Museum is located nowadays. It was then when they put together their efforts and dedication in order to restore the current Bodega Nanni developing new vineyards at Chimpa, to the east of Cafayate Valley, El Porvenir, in the center of The Valley and Altamira in Yacochuya, to the west.

In 1959, Benjamín Nanni passes away and in 1964 the partnership with his brother Pedro is dissolved. After Benjamin’s demise, Felisa Maróstica de Nanni, his widow, stays in charge of the winery and in 1982, she transfers the winery and the NANNI brand to the her youngest son, José Eduardo, who together with his wife, Zulma Miralpeix, gets fully involved in the winery and develops an innovative project. This project involves the elaboration of organic wines taking advantage of the outstanding natural conditions provided by the particular microclimate of the San José de Chimpa estate.

Nowadays, José Eduardo Junior, Juan Pablo and Jimena, the fourth generation of the Nanni family, feel proud and committed to the legacy handed over to us by our grandparents and we feel a great satisfaction and have a huge responsibility to continue with the family tradition as in our products we not only comprise our wine, but also our last name and all our predecessors. Each NANNI bottle reveals our knowledge and great effort to honor all of those who have been and are part of this: Pietro, Benjamín and Pedro, Felisa, José Eduardo and Zulma, and nowadays, us.

State-of-Art- Technology

Although it is not known exactly when man discovered the wine, we know that the oldest findings date from 5000 to 6000 B.C.; consequently, it is likely to be considered the most ancient fermented beverage of the world.

Even though the essence of wine production is still the same from its beginnings: the fermented grape juice, modern discoveries have allowed us to develop a profound knowledge about the microbiological fermentation process and the chemical-microbiological process of wine evolution over time. This allows us to produce a wine in a controlled way and in accordance with established standards.

For that reason, at Bodega Nanni, even though we are a winery with more than 110 years of history, we have been constantly incorporating modern equipment, including stainless steel tanks, cooling equipment, pumps, filters and state-of- the-art packing lines, even a quality control laboratory with the necessary equipment for the proper study of wines.

We have been doing this without leaving aside the ancestral knowledge of our grandparents because we are convinced that the combination of technology and traditions are completely synergistic. We believe that this is the paramount difference between a winery and a wine factory.

Organic Certification

“An organic, biological and ecological product is the one which derives from a global management system of production that fosters and heightens the agro-ecosystem health, including biological diversity and cycles and the soil biological activity. These systems arise from soil fertility respecting the demands and natural capacities of the plants and try to improve the quality of the agriculture and environment in all of their facets. The organic agriculture reduces to a great extent the use of external elements such as chemical fertilizers, pesticides or other chemical products. Instead, it allows the powerful laws of nature to increase the yield and resistance of crops.”

This kind of agriculture favors the use of renewable resources and recycling to the extent in which it returns the nutrients of the residual products to the soil. It fosters a sustainable production enriching the environment.

This agriculture respects the proper mechanisms of nature to control of crops plagues and diseases, avoiding the use of pesticides, herbicides, chemical fertilizers, growth hormones and antibiotics, as well as genetic manipulation.

From the very beginning, at Bodega Nanni, we were convinced that taking care of the environment was not only important, but we also knew that the production using the most natural methods would provide us with healthier and top-quality grapes. On that account, in 1996, we decided to validate what we have been doing, getting the FULL ORGANIC certification issued by SENASA and controlled by Argencert.

Hence, the respect for the natural processes and the biodiversity of the soil has become for us not only a production system, but also a work and life philosophy. So, the moderate consumption of our products fosters health not only because of the well-known antioxidant properties of the wine polyphenols, but also because our products are organic and do not have traces of any kind of agrochemical or other chemical products

Our Vineyards

At Bodega Nanni, we take care of our wines from the beginning of the process; that is why, 100% of the production derives from our own vineyards located in San José de Chimpa estate, 10 Km east of the town of Cafayate. The San José de Chimpa estate with a total extension of 2,000 hectares approximately and 50 planted hectares, is a portion of Chimpa estate, that belongs to the family since 1905.

Located at an altitude of 1,750 meters above sea level with sandy loam, poor and deep soils and an average annual rainfall pattern of 80 mm, our estate is an ideal place for grape production.

The scarce annual rainfalls, together with a strict wind pattern of 12 h daily throughout the year, allow us the production of extremely healthy grapes free from the use of pesticides or fungicides of any kind.

The semi-desertic climate with great temperature range between day and night, the remarkable heliophany of the place, the constant winds and the accurate amount of water applied to the soil through our drip irrigation system enable us to obtain not only healthy and mature grapes, but also thick-skinned grapes which bring great color concentration, polyphenols and varietal aromas to our wines.
